Time for some serious looking back...at a life lived

Various people have at time asked me to "Write a Book"...probably because of some of the BS I've posted in Social Media, and on this blog.  Well at 72 years on this planet, that won't happen, however through this blog I've had a great opportunity to share my opinions, photos, and life stories and adventures.

The first 7 or 8 years of this 14 years {this July}work, I  hit it hard...the last half dozen?  Not so much...now I think it's time, on MY time, to take a look back at different segments of my 72 years, and share some of the good and no so good times...you, if you follow at all, know much of it, now I will attempt, over the next few months, to look back at the various segments in more details...and no in any particular order.

Looking back I can honestly say that I jump into something for awhile, then get bored and find another avenue to take a walk on...weather it's family genealogy,  motorcycles, both street and dual sport, baseball umpire work, and other officiating, dartball in a church league, broadcasting, including sports play by play work, weather in Radio or on Cable TV, and a hundred other hobbies and jobs...my current "Hobby" is making  Beef Jerky of various flavors...how long will that last?  Who knows, but it is something I enjoy making, as opposed to really eating it.  I do however, sell it to co~workers and give  it away to friends and family, the grandsons especially like it...

So I will look back over the next weeks and months, I don't know how often I will post, certainly not 200 plus times a year, like in the early days, but hopefully often enough to keep folks interested, and to make it interesting for the grandsons, 3 of them now, after I am gone...and let's face it, I am on the downside, but not quite ready to go quietly just yet.

So, rather than starting at the beginning, I will start where my life took a  major change, from a skinny ass kid who was not ready to stand up and fight, to one that after years of letting people bully me, finally turned the corner, and became the Anti Bully...

Those were the Air Force Years 1968-1972...and I will begin those in the next segment...

Back Later...

Pat,

Some of the men in our unit (Armed Forces Language School) were stationed in Nha Trang. They lived in barracks (#1503) that looked very much like the one in your picture. We are trying to determine the coordinates of the barracks they were assigned to in Google Earth. I can send you a picture. Would you be able to help us with this project?

Thank you
Dean

Dean {Hjelle}...You know I'm not sure about our Barracks Number, however it was mostly, if not all, Security Police, and was located directly east across the street from the Outdoor Base Theater. The small BX, Jewelry Store, and Barber Shop, etc was next door to the Theater and our Base Police HQ was next door to that string of small shops...

If you type the following coordindates into Google Earth you will fly to the location our guys think their barracks were located.

longitude>109.193766
latitude>12.221415

Do they make sense to you? Do you by any chance have a map of the air base?

Thank you,
Dean

No map of Nha Trang AB Dean, only at Tan Son Nhut...but I'll ask some of the guys...checking out the Google Earth as I type...

Dean: I found the spot you gave on Google Maps...a building still is there, it, to me, appears off base, while the SP Barracks, long gone, was close to the main runway at the time...although with the changes in 52 years I cannot be certain of what remains today...pretty interesting to research for sure.

If you are interested and send me your email address, I will send you the Google Earth coordinates of the locations of several facilities related to our unit in Nha Trang. Memory and the extensive changes that have taken place in the last 50 years made this project more than a challenge. We are pretty comfortable with the AFLS facilities in Saigon and Vung Tau but Nha Trang has been more difficult since neither of us working on the project were ever there. They guys we contacted are pretty comfortable with the locations we settled on but a map would be very helpful.
