Dartball and "Global" Warming....

I have lived in Ohio, off and on, for most of my 63[this Friday} years of life....and there is no doubt, I have not seen a March begin like this one....weather wise at least.  Usually you get two or three days that reach the 70s, plenty of wind, some snow, lots of rain, ice, etc....but this, so far, is like no other...and the next 10 days show no signs of turning back to winter-like weather.  I love it!

70 today, with plenty of sunshine, 75 tomorrow with the same, then perhaps some rain...in fact all the forecast models show nothing but 60s and 70s for highs for the next 10 days...then perhaps some cooling to near normal temperatures for the last week of the month.  It must be those damn humans and their "man-made climate change/global warming"....NOT!

I'm hardly a professional climatologist, but I do know a bit about Science, Environmental Health, and Politics...I had to fight the left wing professors to clear my head of any bullshit they tried to force into my warped brain 35 to 40 years ago.   I guess I was lucky, rather than an 18 to 22 year old student, I was a 25 to 30 year old, and already jaundiced in my view of the world and those that populated it.  Global Warming, and man-made climate change is a lie....and don't bother trying to argue, it is a lie.  Formulated by the left and the media, in another attempt to brainwash the masses, especially children and students, for two main reasons:  Power(Control) and Money(Grants, your tax dollars, etc).  Sure this month of March in the heartland is going to set records....but it's got nothing to do with evil mankind changing dear old Mother Earth for the worst....besides, if this winter and this month were man-caused...I'M ALL FOR IT!  But it's not.....now run out and enjoy it, before April turns wet and cold.

Dartball All Star Game____

The season ended much like it began for me...with a close loss.  This one in the All Star Game at Bethany Church....playing for the South, I ended the evening going 5 for 12, with a triple and 3 RBIs...our team lost the first game 9-3, rolled back and took the second game 6-2.  In the 3rd game we jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but couldn't hold it...the North tied the game, in the 9th.  With 2 out, down 3-2 and a 0-2 count, the tosser, after just missing going off the board{out}, hits a single, the next batter triples to tie it...and then they score 3 in the top of the 10th to take this years contest 6-3 in the rubber game of the set.   We have had that happen before.

Next Monday, I'll be there, if I recuperate from surgery in time, for the Banquet...then the season will begin anew late next October, like it has every year since 1939.

Tomorrow I am off to Lima Memorial for a pre-admission check...hopefully the small cold I have contracted will be just a blip on the radar, and I will be healthy enough for the procedure by Friday afternoon.  In the meantime, it is, like life itself....hurry up and wait!

What the Hell is White Coat Syndrome?

Sun shining bright this morning....Patricia is home for the day through Monday for the President's Day Holiday weekend....the schools seldom get this time off, because usually they are making up days that have been cancelled due to fog or snow...this year, Patricia's school system, St. Henry has had no days canceled for 2011-12, while here in Celina, I believe they have had but two.....and with the best of winter passed us, I'm guessing, except for a fog day or perhaps a rare late snow or ice event, there won't be many days canceled....which of course doesn't make the kiddies happy, everybody wants a day or more off during the school year.

The High today, with the sunshine, will be in the middle 40s, with some cooler/colder weather moving in for late in the weekend, but any precipitation will remain south and east....the 10 days down the road forecast looks above normal temperature-wise with a bit of rain in the forecast.

Off to the Doctor's Office_____

After the high blood pressure findings at last week's visit to our Nurse Practitioner....I was scheduled for an afternoon EKG Cardio visit with the cardiologist in New Bremen.  I had checked my blood pressure in the morning, and it stood at 118/72 with a resting heart rate*(pulse) at 65...good by any readings.  I arrived at the doctor's office at 12:15, and waited for over an hour to be ushered in to the back offices.

I have to admit, I wasn't happy with the wait....if for no other reason than I had way to much time to think....by the time my BP was taken, it was 180/100...What the Hell???  For the first time I began to actually believe in what is called "White Coat Syndrome"....my friend Rick gets it...the condition comes from being in a doctor's office and waiting to have your BP checked....here is what the MD web page says:

It appears on the surface that I am one of the 10 or 20%....meanwhile the EKG was "normal"  no surprise to me there.....

Frankly my BP has always been high/normal, but I never had a severely elevated reading until the day back in late 2007 when I was scheduled to get my epidural for back pain....and they would not do the procedure until my blood pressure levels would drop.  That is when Doc Bergman put me on the  Lisinopril...the epidural was completed a week later, and my back problems were gone within a month or two....only to return on short length occasions, since that day in December 2007.  With the medications and my home monitor my BP has remained usually in the somewhat good range....until last week.

I will admit that I had slacked off on testing the BP at home....so I was surprised when my readings were through the roof at last weeks appointment with Bergman's replacement NP Amy....but when the readings remained high for several hours after the appointment, I had no reason to doubt their validity....until yesterday.

With the increased dosage of Lisinopril my home readings were in the good range...usually in the 115/70 range in the morning, while the later day readings were still pretty good at 130/72, or at least in that range....that is why the office readings shocked{see pissed off} me.   I know my home monitor is pretty accurate, because even when I got home the readings were still high...165/85...by the time I headed to work the basketball double header, they were down to the 145/82 range...and last night, back in the 130/75 range.

This morning.....111/72  !!!   So in addition to the double dose of Lisinopril...the Cardio doc wants me to take a 10mg dose of Bystolic....he gave me a three week supply.  With the BP readings where they were this morning....I did not start taking that....more convinced than ever that I do indeed have "White Coat Syndrome"...who would have thunk it?

Meanwhile the cholesterol reading from the blood work last week were high, so back on the Zocor I went.... while still taking the Omega 3 fish oil....with a return visit scheduled for the leap year day February 29th for an Echo cardiogram at the office, then a hospital visit in St. Marys the next day Bilateral Carotid check???  Whatever the Hell that is....?

So there you have it....meanwhile I am feeling fine.  The biggest question I have is "Just how much medication do I need?"  I have always said I will not become a prisoner to pills....and approaching 63 next month, I see way too many people, many younger than me, taking way too many prescription drugs...I have a set limit in my mind, and even though I am no medical expert, I know how I feel, and I have a set limit of just how far I will go in feeding my body more drugs, whether prescribed or not.  I'd rather kick back and have a cold one.....life is good, and I would rather enjoy it, than fear what may be beyond this life...if I don't stretch it out with so called "miracle drugs".

Off to Van Wert tonight for a JV Game....as the roundball season comes down to the end, at least officiating wise for me....I am ready for baseball and warm weather, although to be honest, this has been one easy to handle winter so far.  Gotta love the Global Warming !!!  {which of course only resides in the weak minds of Liberals and their fake Science Gods}.

Winter Sets In, College Football Bowl Season is here, and Happy Birthday "Endora"

Looking out some 2 weeks into the future, I can see no days above 35 degrees for highs, with most days slated to be in the 20s, with lows in the teens...pretty rare to be this cold for an extended period this early in the season...after all we are still technically in "Fall".  So much for Global Warming...one thing I've noticed of late, folks have tired of the lies of the left wing Marxists and media about Global Warming...most thinking folks know what many of us have known all along....there is no such thing as man made Global Climate Change...it is indeed a hoax!

Return of the Marsh Hawk____

I walked out back this morning to give the ration of seed and feed to the Sparrows, Cardinals, and Gray Squirrels...the pair of red birds along with the hoards of small pesky Sparrows came swooping in fast, and began their feast....I came back in, read some material on the Internet and began preparing for my morning writings.  Some 15 minutes later, I popped out of my chair for another, my third, cup of coffee....and lo and behold, the birds were gone.  It didn't take long to figure out why.  I looked above the feeders in the backyard and saw the looming form of our resident Marsh Hawk...killer of birds, and other small rodents and mammals, lurking above the vines and feeders by the back fence.

Now of course I cannot be sure it this is the same one that has been hanging around for the past 4 winters....they look pretty similar, and it wasn't around as much last year(a mild winter), as the brutal winter of 08 and 09, and the previous 07/08 winter.  But given the early signs of a long, cold, season, my guess is he(or she) will make more visits this season, as it progresses.

Bowl Season has Arrived_____

Ohio State's Buckeyes are once again in a BCS Bowl....Coach Jim "The Vest" Tressel has a 5-3 record in BCS games in his previous years...this season OSU takes on the Arkansas Razorbacks on January 4, 2011, in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.  Wisconsin the tri-champion(along with Ohio State and Mich State) of the Big Ten, will take on TCU in the Rose Bowl on 1/1/11...while the Spartans are left with the "Booby Prize" of the Capitol One Bowl against Alabama, also on New Years Day...despite the fact MSU defeated Wisconsin early in the season.  The tie breaker was not kind to Michigan State.  In the National Title Game, undefeated Auburn takes on the Oregon Ducks.  For the rest of the BCS and other bowl action, click on the link:

Happy 110th Birthday Agnes Moorehead___


To most folks my age or younger, Agnes Moorehead, will be always remembered as "Endora", the conniving mother witch of Elizabeth Montgomery, "Samantha", in the 1960s TV show "Bewitched".  Born in Massachusetts on this day in 1900, Moorehead was actually so much more as an actress.

Moorehead passed away on April 30, 1974, and is buried just down the road in Dayton, Ohio.  She was a college alumni of Muskingum College in Ohio, and owned a large tract of land near Rix Mills, in the hilly area of southeastern Ohio.  She was a devote Christian and conservative in her political leanings...she left her "Emmy" and papers to the College, and her land to Bob Jones University.

Outside of "Bewitched" I fist saw Moorehead in the Bogart and Bacall offering "Dark Passage".  After I got XM Radio a few years back and became a fan of "Old Time Radio Channel", I learned that Moorehead was one of the great Radio Actresses of that time, working between 1937 and 1954...then coming back for the first installment of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater.  She performed in two episodes before her death at the age of 73.  Moorehead's death of cancer, is one of the many that happened to actors and crew of the John Wayne/Howard Hughes bomb(no pun intended), "The Conqueror" from 1956.  To date, 90 of the 220 or so cast members, including Wayne, Moorehead, Susan Hayward, Director Dick Powell, and dozens of others have died from cancer.  The shooting site of the film was downwind from a Nuclear test site:

Saturday I officiated three basketball games, giving me a total of 10 for the week.  I certainly used the time off yesterday to rest the back, legs, and knees.  9 more games scheduled for this week...including a boys Junior High double header tonight here in Celina.  Following that I will make the 20 minute drive to Rockford to toss darts, probably arriving near the end of the first of 3 games.

The week will be busy, and the weather will remain cold....winter is here early.

Indisputable Facts of Life/Winter Stomps Out Global Warming!

The steady cold along with lite snow continued over the weekend....after the 6 inches of lite snow on Thursday into Friday Morning, the weekend saw some flurries, along with the cold weather...overnight temps hovering around the zero mark, while highs were in the teens and 20s. Yesterday however did see a warming sunshine, pretty unusual for a January day...the sun seldom seems to warm things, but yesterday appeared to be an exception.

The nation continues to be in a deep freeze, including south Florida. I remember growing up on the Gulf of Mexico city of Venice, Florida, back in the 1950s and early 60s...on occasion we would get a hard freeze, usually in the upper 20s, which would sometimes put the citrus crop in danger. Those days however, would usually warm to the 50s and 60s by mid afternoon, and seldom lasted more than a couple of days at a time. One of our kicks back then was for me and older brother Mike to grab a firecracker and set it in the front yard bird bath on School Street, light it, and blow up the ice on the top....if I were to do that today in western Ohio, our back yard bird bath would be blown up in total. No thin skin of ice in the dog dishes and outdoors these days...we have not been above freezing in quite awhile. We may however, hit the mid 30s by Thursday, but only for a day or 2. Man Made Global Warming Continues?... sure it does.

Europe is being beset by heavy snow and record cold temperatures...hope they love that Global Warming, after all, they love the socialised life over there, and fell into the climate change by man BS long ago.

The Weekend Past____

After getting my game snowed out on Thursday at St. Marys, the schedule returned to normal by Friday night...I traveled to Lima to officiate the Junior Varsity game between Lima Central Catholic and Delphos Jefferson. After a close first half LCC pulled away for a 14 point victory...the varsity contest went the same way. Saturday, Nick decided to go with me to Ottawa for a double header that I had slated at Ottawa-Glandorf High School. I was contracted to do a Freshman/JV Double Header, quite a workout was in store. Despite blowing a few calls, the games went without a major hitch, and O-G won both in rather easy fashion{the JV game was pretty close until the last couple of minutes}.

I did get a kick midway through the JV game...after a O-G player dribbled the ball on the side line, I gave the ball to Bowling Green...as I handed the ball to the BG player, some leather lung fan yelled out "terrible call, you're too damn old to be officiating" I smiled, looked into the second row, where I saw the loud mouth...about 40 years old, with 3 chins and out of shape as you could be...thinking to myself.."Yep, I'm 60 years old, 5' 11"/188 pounds, and running up and down a basketball court for 3 hours, and I'm too old. Meanwhile you sit on your fat ass, yelling insults and at 40 years old, you probably can't walk to the door without stopping for air". I looked him in the eyes, and just smiled.....

After the games, Nick and I headed north to the Corn City of Deshler, Ohio...where our old buddy Tom Friedly calls home these days, at least in the summer and fall. Tom grooms, and trains, trotters and pacers for a racing stable in Deshler, and we decided to crash there after a bite to eat and a couple of beers. Tom is set to head to Florida to winter train the nags this Wednesday, and will be there for a few months, returning some time in May.

Nick and I got an early start Sunday and headed home....the remainder of yesterday was spent watching the 2nd day of the NFL Playoffs, with the only good game of the weekend being the last...the Overtime victory by Arizona over Green Bay. With the Bengals eliminated on Saturday{glad I was working and didn't get to see that mess}, guess I'll have a rooting interest for the Cardinals, for as long as they make a run.

Indisputable facts of life{Sarcasm alert}____

While catching bits and pieces of news and viewing life in general, there are a whole bunch of morons walking around this world, and many of them are in high places and are held in high esteem.

(1) Senate Leader Harry Reid is a moron. How can anybody that is regarded as the leader in the US Senate call the President out...with the words "Negro Dialect" and Lite Skinned African American, keep his job?

Answer: Because he's a Liberal and gets a pass for his racism...just like a former Grand Wizard of the KKK, who went on to become a senior Senator from West Virginia. All Hell would have been let loose if a GOP member of Congress or a talk radio host had said those words. Hypocrites, F**king Hypocrites, are Democrats and the left, at the very least.

(2) Parents that can't stop protecting and coddling their adult children are morons. When is it time to cut the umbilical cord on Little Johnny and Jane and let them succeed or fail on their own?

Answer: Yes, you should always go to bat for your children when needed...but in the case of former NFL Player Craig James and his wife, when are you going to let your son make it on his own? He's not exactly 10 years old any more.

Craig James, now an analyst on ESPN when whining to Texas Tech University when his football playing son Adam, was allegedly locked in a closet while the team practiced. Head Coach Mike Leach, now fired, was accused to putting Adam, suffering with a concussion, into a non-windowed training room for a couple of hours....Adam went crying to mommy and daddy, and the most successful coach in Tech history was gone.

Question? Adam, an average player, could have transferred, quit the team, etc, etc. But nope, not the son of the privileged...Little Adam went running to daddy, and got the big bad coach fired...and thus pretty much ended the Texas Tech run of success, what good player would want to play in that PC mess? My question is...Why? James can name his college, his successful dad can pay his way through about any college, and I'm sure he could have ridden the bench at most. So why not 'man up', rather than go running to Big Daddy? Such is the world of parents managing their children's lives until they, the parents, die. In some cases this in necessary{trust me I know}, but this is not one of them...let Adam grow up and grow a pair, on his own, and fail/succeed on his own merits.

(3) Parents that name their kids after American Indians, are morons. What are the odds of Dakota Washington or Cheyenne O'Brien become President? You can bet, that folks that name their children Dakota, Cheyenne, or Sierra, are morons, and almost without a doubt the mother insisted on the name.

Answer...Would you vote for a kid named Dakota for President? My guess anybody with that name would change it before running for any high office...if not they lose. The same goes for parents that insist on naming their children a somewhat common name, but change the spelling to make them seem "unique"...fat chance! Here's a hint, stick to naming your offspring Sally, Bill, Ron, or Sue...makes their lives much simpler.

(4) The Global Warming Lie is losing steam____

Despite what Obama, Al Gore, and the main stream press would have you believe...the American Public is beginning to get the facts straight. There is no Global Warming, and what climate change there may be, is not getting us any warming, and is not caused by man.

Answers: Stop believing the BS thrown at you by the main stream press, especially that you get on the NBC owned Weather and History Channels. Bet you didn't know GE Owned NBC owned those far left slanted channels, did you? Yes, the History Channel has some good stuff...but stay away from the "climate change" programs...same goes for the Weather Channel, watch the local and extended forecasts, ignore the garbage about global climate change they spew out.

(5) A full 1/4th{at least} of Americans Are Morons_____

The only good things about the current cold snap in Ohio and the Midwest are....it continues to make Al Gore and his soul mates like Barry Barack Obummer, look like fools as they continue to pimp for the failed lie called 'man made global warming'...Global Warming my ass, I say...

This week continues to be busy....especially for this semi-retired type right winger...between trips to Columbus(another one in about 3 hours} to get Sam settled in and pick up his replacement vehicle in Dayton, and counting double headers, I have 8 Basketball games scheduled for this week. Last night I drove a slippery 55 miles north to Antwerp to officiate a boys Junior High double dip....and a Overtime contest in the 8th grade game pushed me home about 9pm...just in time to catch the Iowa victory over Georgia Tech in the frigid Orange Bowl(about 45 degrees by game's end, more proof of Global Warming no doubt?}...Iowa's victory pushes me up to 98th place in the ESPN.Com Bowl Mania contest...out of some 273,000 entries....wins by Central Michigan and a Texas upset of Alabama should put me in the top 20 or better....even it Texas would lose I would place in the to 1/2 of 1%....

When I slid back into Celina last night after the games....I stopped along Main Street and snapped a few photos around the Mercer County Courthouse...just to see how the Fuji would work with still night photography...the results are on today's blog.

Back to Columbus____

The roads were pretty awful heading down to Columbus on Monday, to Lima Monday Night, and Antwerp last evening...today a bit of snow on top of frozen roads won't help...and tomorrow we are expecting another round of snow moving in from the west....not sure how much, but they are calling for somewhere between 2 and 6 inches, depending on where the front moves through. Not that much by any means, but for some reason, the State and Local Road crews cannot keep the highways and back roads clear...$$$ or lack of it? Either way, the plows aren't getting it done. None the less, I will take the Intrepid, rather than the Jeep...which just doesn't warm up like I would like...I rather drive in comfort, and take my chances...might be time to consider selling the Jeep, the only time it seems enjoyable to drive is in the Summer, with the top off.

I will pick up Sam at 2:30, we will head west to the Dayton area, and pay off the lady for the Toyota, and hopefully get the license, etc, for it, so he can head back to Columbus...before the Snow sets in tomorrow...otherwise he will drive it home, get the license and insurance taken care of in Celina, and race the snow back to Columbus tomorrow.....

Rest of the Week_____

Tonight is the last non-basketball day until Sunday....Tomorrow a Girls JV/League game at St. Marys, followed by a boys JV contest at Lima Central Catholic on Friday evening. Then on Saturday I head north for a Freshman/JV Boys double header between Ottawa-Glandorf and visiting Bowling Green. Nick is going to drag along with me, we will hook up with Tom the Horseman at Deshler, and down a few beers...staying there overnight, before heading back on Sunday morning. Tom gets out of this icebox next week, as he heads to Florida{maybe it will have warmed up by then} to train the trotters and pacers down there until returning in early May.

That's about all the excitement for today....back with more later.

This morning I jumped into the Jeep and heading out on West Bank Road to take a look at Grand Lake and to check out how the 13,000 acre pond was freezing over.....with the exception of a few "open water" spaces that the Canada Geese were using as their own private swimming pool....the Lake appears to be on the way to a complete freeze over...More Global Warming???

Dartball Results other Sports____

Last night we took on our old South Division rivals from Mount Carmel to end the first half of play in the Wabash Valley Dartball League....used to be when we met, a title or at least half championship was in the balance....not so this time. We came in at 7 wins 11 loses, while they were in control of their own destiny, with a tie for first at 11-7 and the tie breaker over Hopewell St. Johns....we stunk up our home board in the first two games, losing 8-1 and 6-0, while managing only 11 hits, including 3 in the 2nd game shutout....in game 3 we strung a few hits together and pulled out a 4-3 win...I ended the night 5 for 10 with 2 triples and a couple of RBIs...to move to .427 on the season..getting home I find out Hopewell had swept Bethany Church and clinched the first half of the season with a 14-7 record...Schumm won the North First half with the same record. So, despite the first half flop, we did have a say in who won....by eeking out that last game. I end the first half at .427(good for first or second in the league so far, a down year for the league) and 12 RBIs...I remember winning the RBI total one year with 72....and finishing 2nd in batting with a .491 average, those days are gone forever.

Off next week, then the league resumes the final half on January 4th...as we take on Hopewell at home.....

Basketball tonight, I'm at St. Marys for a girls/boys combination double header at the Freshman level...girls first at 5pm, boys to follow...both teams play their rival Wapakoneta...Sam has a girls Junior High double header at Spencerville.....

It appears that Winter has settled in here in western Ohio....snow, rain, and wind, in the forecast for the next few days...and only a high of 20 by Thursday. Nothing out of the 30s for the foreseeable forecast through next week. All this while our idiot Kenyan-in-Chief heads to Denmark to try to bankrupt the country with "Cap and Tax" in pursuit of the fake science of Global Warming. Said it once, will say it again...Global Warming doesn't exist, and is nothing more than a political power grab by the left....far left. Should we protect the Environment where possible? Yes....Should we be taxed into serfdom to try to achieve something that cannot be done? Hell No!

Meanwhile in my Dartball World...St Johns-Celina defeated St Johns Hopewell 4-0 in the first of 3 last night, but that was as good as it got...dropping the final 2 games by scores of 4-3 and 5-2. We now stand at a miserable 5 wins 10 loses in the season's first half, {thank gawd for split seasons} while Hopewell stays firmly in 1st place at 11 wins 4 loses....on the other hand, I had a pretty good night individually...going 7 for 12 with a couple of RBIs to move my average back above 400 for the season at .411 with 9 runs batted in.

Vietnam 40 years ago today____

By the time December 8, 1969, had arrived, most of us at the 14th Security Police Squadron knew our numbers were up....We knew, except for a few, that we were going to be shipped out from our beach front base on the South China Sea for places unknown. I was hopeful that I would stick around, even though many of my friends had already been sent home{Harry Bevan and Marc Payen} or shipped to other bases {Johnny Claflin and others}

Nha Trang, in my opinion, was as good as it got in terms of Air Force Security Police during the Vietnam War....and my 6 months had been as good as time as I had in the Air Force. But those times were not going to last....on that sunny Vietnam morning, I was summoned over to SP Base Police HQ and give my marching orders....On December 27th, I would grab a flight south to Tan Son Nhut....the big base at Saigon, where I had entered the country 6 months before, and report for duty with the 377th Security Police Squadron. The 377th, a squadron that had actually been in combat, was going to be my new home....dandy, just freaking dandy!

I still saw plenty of 'action' in my final 3 weeks at Nha Trang....with less personal I was moved to C flight{midnight till 8am} from the day shift, which gave me a chance to ride jeeps into the beer and soda compound, and abscond with some goodies for the troops. I also saw a horrific Air America plane crash, where I worked the perimeter and kept the rubber necks and gawkers from seeing the carnage....10 people on board and the ground died when that plane, after an in air bomb explosion, slid into a local school house.

By the time Christmas Day{and strangely I don't remember that X-Mas Day at all}rolled around, I was packed and ready to take a C-130 back to Saigon....

Tan Son Nhut and Nha Trang had little in common...TSN was large and set in a large city..Nha Trang was small and set in the tropic like setting on the South China Sea...I worked Law Enforcement with the 14th SPS, during the daylight....I was slated to work overnight Security at TSN.....it was going to be a whole different world.

Boys Junior High Basketball double header tonight in Van Wert County at Lincolnview Schools....the head cold is improving, as is the back.....hopeful for a pain and illness free December and Christmas season, but you never know how things will work out.....

There is little doubt that the fix is in....Congress with the pushing of our President, one Barry Soetoro aka: Barack Insane Obama, it going to roll like the lap dogs they are on Global Warming, Cap and Trade{taxes}...That and the take over of the Health Care industry by the left wing bureaucrats is a done deal.....The Congress, including the Blue Dog Dimocrats, is going to let it happen, despite what the majority of Americans think of it....

First Snow/First Cold___

\I woke up this morning, after 11 hours plus of sleep, to an inch or so of snow on the ground...our first measurable deposit of the season....it looked kind of nice.

I managed to acquire a head cold over the weekend...I had not had a major cold or bout with the flu for years until last winter...I caught one at the start of basketball season, and battled the bug for a couple of months off and on. It appears I may be in for the same war this winter...I have to believe it has something to do with basketball...you get close up to fans, players, coaches, and handle a round ball that gets touched by at least a couple of dozen players each evening...a prescription for colds, flu, etc, without a doubt.

So I will continue to take the vitamins, drink the OJ, and down a spirit or 3 each evening. Over the weekend I didn't manage to down many, but I did try a couple of speciality brews, "Full Moon" by Blue Moon and Leinenkugel's Dark Creamy Winter Ale....not bad. I downed a couple yesterday while watching football, probably the reason I managed to grab 11+ hours most needed sleep.

Hal and his buddy Matt, both Bengals fans, headed to Cincinnati yesterday to watch the Bengals take on the Lowly Lions of Detroit....not a pretty game, but Cincinnati cemented it's lead in the AFC North by taking out the Lions 23-13. It looks like the Bengals will make playoffs for only the 2nd time since 1990, barring a complete collapse in the final month of the season.

The Bowls____

The BCS managed to luck out with the Texas win over Nebraska on a disputed 13-12 Field Goal as time expired....then put the 2 "outsiders" Texas Christian and Boise State, against each other in the Fiesta Bowl, so the have-nots won't have the opportunity to take on the big boys....the NCAA and B{c}S sure wouldn't want that.

Other Major games have Ohio State vs Oregon in the Rose Bowl, Florida takes on unbeaten Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl, Georgia Tech against Iowa in the Orange, and in the Title Game, Texas Longhorns face Alabama's Crimson Tide at Pasadena....I'll make my predictions later on this blog.....

And it appears in my "I have no Life" section....all 3 of my NFL Fantasy Teams on ESPN will make the Championship rounds....Hooray for me!

I would be remiss if I failed to mention that today is Pearl Harbor Day....on December 7th 1941, the Japs{yes I know that is not PC, but that's what they were and what we called them}...attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to begin WWII....I wonder, but doubt, if we would have the guts to fight back today like we did then....the current Administration and clowns in Congress, are not patroits, they are gutless cowards....


I salute those brave men and women from that day 68 years ago.......the sad part is...you can hardly find a newspaper headline on the Internet that declares "Japs"...Google and the rest of the Internet are part of the sickness called Political Correctness and Revionist History!
