Media Ignores DC Protest/Ohio State loses to USC...Again!

The fall weather continues to impress throughout the weekend. Albeit a little too dry in Mercer County, you can't ask for better weather...highs in the upper 70s and lows in the 50s, with little humidity and NO Air Conditioning.

Hear No Conservatives, See No Conservatives, Ignore all Conservatives___

So the main stream media, including Yahoo and other Internet outlets have decided to do just that....

Yesterday, tens of thousands, some reports say up to 2 million Anti Tax, Anti Big Government protesters headed into Washington DC to protest the bloated unresponsive politicians in DC...meanwhile the Head of State, one Barack Hussain Obama, headed out. The gutless SOB went to Minnesota to talk to a few hundred lap dog supporters in a hand picked "rally"...most of the media choose to cover that, big freaking surprise.

I'm not sure if there were 2 million marching in DC, but I know it was one Hell of a lot more than the media clowns would lead you to believe: Check out these time lapse photos for YouTube:

I saw some media hacks{MSNBC and others} saying it was in the "thousands"...No Sheet Sherlock...just how many tens of thousands would you guess from these photos?

The media and Obama worshippers just don't get it....but the movement is growing, and peaceful or not, a Revolution is Brewing....Wake Up America!

Michelle Malkin, Drudge Report, and the 912 Project all have the real scoop...you can find them on the right side of this page in The Right{Wing} Stuff column.

Down Goes Ohio State to USC{again}!>>>

I have been an Ohio State football fan for over 50 years. Didn't go to college there, but even if you went to places like Ohio University, Wright State, or even Hocking Tech, if you live in Ohio or were born here, you are most likely an Ohio State Buckeye fan. I don't live and die OSU Football, but have been a fan for all the decades, even when living in Florida back in the 1950s and early 60s...root for OSU, root against Michigan, thats just the way it is.

Last night OSU had a chance to gain a small amount of revenge for the humbling 35-3 loss at Southern California last year....they came up short, again! 18-15 was the final as USC drove 90 yards in the final minutes to secure the come-from-behind victory.

You can lay the defeat on the hands of one Jim Tressel, "The Vest" as he is called in these parts. Tressel and his over-hyped, overrated 19 year old Quarterback, Terrelle Pryor, were out coached and out played, but Pete Carroll and his freshman QB Barkley last night when the game was on the line. Things have not been the same at OSU for many fans since last year's 3rd game when Tressel dumped Senior QB and local kid Todd Boeckman for Pryor....last night was no exception. Although I was rooting for OSU, when TP and the Vest failed, it didn't surprise me in the least.

Back to the drawing board...guess you can always beat up on mighty Toledo in Cleveland at Browns Stadium next week....maybe? Toledo looked pretty strong in dismantling Colorado on Friday night.

Sam the Camera Man____

Oldest son Sam, who turns 28 in December went back to college last fall, and with his previous classes, he enters the middle of his Sophomore year at Ohio State in Columbus this fall{last year he went to OSU-Lima, a branch campus closer to home}...he also has picked up a job doing video for the OSU Athletic Department...the perks include the home football games.

So last night Sam was on the sidelines for the first 3 quarters of the OSU-USC game, then moved into the press section to tape the post game press conference....I'm sure the long faces on Tressel and the players were not pleasant to view afterwards, and the smiles on USC had to make a Buckeye sick....he heads home today to officiate a double header football Rec League game with me, so I'll find out more then.

In my broadcast days, both in radio and Cable TV, I stood on many a football field, sat at a basketball press table, or worked in the press boxes above the baseball diamonds, basketball courts and football fields...it was always fun getting that view and perspective of the game...whether just watching or doing play-by-play. Do I miss it? Probably, but not so much I would want to go back to that grind...easier to sit in my leather recliner with a beer and cuss and boo in comfort. I did plenty of that, albeit in mostly silence, last night.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend...back later

Photos-Tax Day in DC was a success, except in the main stream media. Sam working as a paid intern for OSU and The Big Ten Network, was on the sidelines. Stafon Johnson scores the game winner vs the Buckeyes{#51 is local product Ross Homan from Coldwater, who had an outstanding game, despite the loss} And me in my sideline days at big games...1990 at the Horseshoe as the Buckeys win the Big Ten by defeating Indiana{me on the left with leather jacket}, and on the sidelines at Riverfront Stadium in 1986 as Cincinnati takes on the Seahawks.

9/11/01 What Have We Become in the 8 Years Since?

This morning I sit listening to Glenn Beck on my XM Radio station 165. He was playing the sounds of that Tuesday morning 8 years ago...the broadcasts, the screams, the flight tower conversations. It almost brought a tear to my eye...and being the educated Red Neck I am, that doesn't come easy these days.

9/11/01___

I remember turning on my computer at the Van Wert County Health Department, where I ws Environmental Health Director...I see a photo on the home page of a fire and smoke coming out of one of the towers...at that time nobody was quite sure what had happened....within a half hour, another plane crashed into the other tower, and we knew what was going on...we were at war. At war with a radical and evil enemy. Islam!

Today, 8 full years later, we are still at war with the radical forces of a gutter people...the forces of Radical Islam. But we also have a much closer enemy to our Republic and Freedoms. Those forces reside in Washington DC. They are the Obama's, the Pelosi's, The Reid's, Wall Street, Big Labor Unions, Teacher's Unions, and runaway Government Regulations and the Bureaucrats that work within that system.

One World Government, a Socialist/Marxist style Government, is heading our way like a freight train...do you and me have the guts to stop that train?

Wake Up America! God Bless America some say...I say Why? Why would we deserve his blessings? Why Indeed? We have sold our souls to radicals in DC and the National Government, we have sold our soul to Political Correctness, and the Pop Culture, we murder our unborn by the millions...In some perverse sort of way the not-so-Reverend Wright was right.

Wake Up America..before it's too late!

Joe Wilson to Obama "You Lie"

South Carolina Congressman called our Illegal Kenyan Born Prez exactly what he is last during during the Obummer's Hitler like speech to Congress:

I was expecting Nanny State Pelosi to call out the SS Storm Troopers and have Joe hauled off to the death camps in San Francisco.
The only downer was that Wilson called the White House to Apologise to the real President Roach Emanuel...or is that VP Emanuel with George Soros being the real President.
Top Left-Congressman Joe Wilson(R-SC) and Emanuel and his Obummer Sock Puppet...Who is pulling the strings?
______________
Obama By the Numbers:
The latest Poll Number for our infamous Liar-in-Chief
Rasmussen today has The Ebony Messiah at 41% Strongly Disapprove/33% Strongly Approve of his performance...when "leaners" are counted he rates 51% Disapprove and 48% Approve.
---
The Wannabee King of the World fares no better in the Zogby International Poll:
By a margin of 48-42% voters disapprove of him and his job...if all numbers are tossed in the Highest/Lowest form it stands at Negative Obama 57% Positive Obama 42%....me thinks the Emperor is about to lose his clothes.

40 Years Ago Nha Trang September 1969

So here it is..09-09-09, nothing special so far...maybe by the time 10-10-10 strikes next year we will be closer to knowing just exactly what Barack Obama and his Marxist henchmen have done to the long term survival of the Republic. With the mid term elections being only 3 weeks or so away, at that time, what the voters will do to the Democrats and complicit Republicans in charge of this coming disaster.

Sam and I headed to Spencerville yesterday and officiated a 36-0 freshman win by the home squad over Columbus Grove...we dodged the rain showers in the second half, by speeding up the game, i.e. continuous clock, no penalties...etc. No game, just a meeting at Van Wert tonight, double header{Junior High followed by a Freshman game} at Convoy tomorrow. Sam heads for Columbus Saturday, and working for the OSU Athletic Department, gets into the USC vs Ohio State game and will man the camera for the Post Game Press Conference....I didn't like what I saw out of coach Jim Tressel or The Savior, Terrelle Pryor, on Saturday against Navy....my prediction Southern Cal 23 Ohio State 14. Pryor, while a great athlete, is a poor Quarterback, can't think on his feet, and no accuracy in the arm. Tressel is overrated as a coach, the 7-1 record over Michigan being the exception, but we know what Michigan has become...a shadow of it's former glory years.

Nha Trang AB, Republic of Vietnam, September 1969____

By the time Labor Day 1969 had rolled around, I had settled in at my duties on "A" Flight(Day Shift) Law Enforcement...Have I mentioned, even though the job of a Security Policeman was one of the more dangerous Air Force jobs{except for the fly jockeys who actually faced death on a daily basis}, at Nha Trang things were pretty sweet? Despite the dangers of being a Sky Cop in Vietnam, unlike the guys out in the boonies, in 1969 most of the Air Bases had pretty sweet digs, not the tents and out house facilities of the early years. At Nha Trang, we SPs had it as good as any enlisted folks around.

We also had pretty sweet amenities...a base theater right across the street from our barracks, a small movie house called Bailey's Speakeasy, for cops only, and the BX and small "shopping mall" was pretty nice...get your film developed, get a real haircut, buy your booze{if you couldn't Shanghai it from the Beer and Soda Compound, which we were in charge of "guarding"}...and if we wanted to rub elbows with the common Airman, we could always head off to the NCO Club on base, where you could play the slots, or get into a fight if you desired.

Yep, I had been in country for 2 months, not a single danger faced, unless you count me almost rolling my Jeep on patrol one afternoon, any homesickness was gone, a good boss, TSgt Phil Lange, I was frankly enjoying myself, war zone be dammed.

The Photos are from the Phil Lange and Bill Monroe Collections are shown as follows: Top to Bottom:

Top Left-Our Home Sweet Home, the Security Police Barracks...I live on the bottom floor somewhere towards the other end. TSgt Phil Lange, NCOIC of Law Enforcement, enjoying a Cigar in our private movie and bar house, 'Bailey's Speakeasy", The outdoor movie theater, located right across the street for our barracks, as was the {next photo}..most of the movies shown there and at Bailey's were pretty first run stuff. The Barber Shop within the BX a early day "Mini Mall". Me{left} and Harry Bevan on Patrol....The locals tooling down Beach Road, always amazed me how many locals could fit on a mini scooter...count em' 4 on this one. And finally, it wasn't all fun and games...The Security Police did actually carry and use weapons, and we had a pretty good arsenal. And me in August of 69 in one of the Patrol Jeeps...the one I almost rolled that summer.

For the first time since I started this blog

I deleated today's post...it was a rant about Obama, his school speech, and Ohio State Quarterback Terrelle Pryor and his saluting dog killer and felon Michael Vick....It took me an hour to write, and about 5 minutes to say....I didn't like the post or what it said about me, rather than these two idiots....so I pushed the delete button....Damn All that Work..gone! But there was something about it that left a bad taste in my mouth...so off with it, maybe something better next time.

But that's ok...I've got things to do, and will be back tomorrow....I will instead leave you with a couple of photos of my friend Phil Lange's grave in New Hampshire...his son Paul is looking for a copy of a Air Force Security Police Shield to ingrave on it....

Phil, who died in late June, was my NCOIC at Nha Trang in Vietnam in 1969...his wife is now in a battle with cancer as well...please say a prayer for her, if you are so inclined.

Photos of Places I've Lived-Final Chapter(1973-2009)

Patricia, Anissa, and I, headed south to Centerville, Ohio, yesterday afternoon. The destination was Hal's girlfriend, Lisa's condo in that quaint berg just south of Dayton off I-75. We visited for a few hours with Hal, Lisa, and Tim }Lisa's dad}, and the dogs....they fixed supper on the grill outside, and we got a chance to do a little talking...Tim and I hit it off, he seems like he's on the save wave length in his outlook as we are. We had a good time and some good conversation. Thank you Lisa, for the hospitality.

Lisa is finishing Law School at the University of Dayton this coming school year, and will take her bar exam next May I believe...she and Hal seem to hit it off pretty well and time will tell what happens there...hopefully both can get the gainful opportunities they want in the work place after all is said and done. Hal, just off his Masters at Wright State, did not secure a High School teaching job as he had hoped...but does have a good job working with Autistic youth, and is starting on a correspondence program at Penn State, which he can take on line as he continues to work. Needless to say, he still would like to teach High School and coach down the road. Things are tight everywhere in the ObamaNation, but having skills and the education that Hal and Lisa have, will certainly help them no matter the economic outlook.

The sky is leaden gray this morning, and rain is all around, but as usual, this small swath of west central Ohio has been left out, and our ground remains hard as a rock...maybe before the morning ends, we will get some of the left overs.

Photos from the places I have lived, The final Chapter 1973-2009____

After my Air Force days were done in May of 1972 I returned home to Celina, Ohio, for a spell...living here for the most part since that time, I have ventured off{mainly during my radio broadcasting days} to various other places in the Midwest and Plains.

In 1977 shortly after Patricia and I were married, we picked up the Airedales and our belongings and headed to her home state of Wisconsin...not Oconomowoc, her hometown, but north to Wausau, located in the far northwoods. I went to broadcast school at Trans American there, Patricia worked for an investment company, then at Wausau South Hospital, where Anissa was born in February 1979. Not letting the grass grow under my feet, we spent the next 18 months living on the radio.

First stop was Kokomo, Indiana, at WIOU radio in the central Indiana town, located just 90 miles due west of Celina...after a short stay there, it was on to the wild west of Dodge City, Kansas, where I plied my radio skills as News Director of KGNO, the 50,000 watt blowtorch of southwestern Kansas. About this time I realized that moving around the country every 6 or 9 months was no way to live...so in the summer of 1980, I applied for and got a radio job back home at the local station WCSM. I would stay there for nearly 3 years as Program and Sports Director/Morning Drive DJ, before finally a job opened at the Mercer County Health Department...I was in Celina for the duration, at least living here. After 8 years at the local health department, I took the position of Environmental Health Director in my birth county of Van Wert, where I stayed until retiring in 2002....during my years in the Health Department{s} I also stayed busy part time in radio and doing Cable TV news and sports broadcasts in Van Wert.
I spent the next 5 years driving RVs around the country for delivery, except for baseball season, when I umpired High School baseball...when the bottom fell out of the RV business thanks to the Bush-Obama "stimu-less bail outs", I picked up my basketball license and now enjoy my time doing football, baseball, and basketball, at the high school level...frankly I enjoy being "retired", although at times I put in more hours actually working than I ever did in Radio/Cable TV and Environmental Health.

Photo Descriptions-{top left}A night view of the Celina Lighthouse on Grand Lake and West Bank Road..below that is a daytime look as viewed from the west looking east. {top right} Our house, where we have lived since 1995, after my summer painting project, the house was built as a church parsonage in the winter of 1923. Dodge City is for sure one of the "Crossroads" of America, as you can see by the major highways{but no Interstate} that runs though the town. Next is the front view our the house on Brandon Street in Celina that I purchased in 1974....located just a block to the north of our current home. Who says you can't come home again? Downtown Kokomo, where we lived in during the last half of 1979. And a look out our front window of the farm house we lived in during our years in Northern Wisconsin...the Blizzard of March 1979 was a good one. Historic Front Street in Dodge City, Kansas. Patrica, Anissa, and I "Got out of Dodge" in the summer of 1980. And finally a dilapidated barn in Marathon County, Wisconsin...we lived on terrain such as this during our stay in Marathon County from 1977 though mid 1979...living half way between Wausau and Merrill right on the Marathon-Lincoln Line Road on a rental Horse Farm. And I would be remiss if I didn't add a photo of the old Andrews Farm house on Coldwater Creek. This is where we lived when the boys were born and they and Anissa loved the place as kids when we lived there for a decade from 1980 through the summer of 1990.

Glenn Beck & Real America 1 Van Jones & Barack Obama 0

Although you won't see or hear much about it in the mainstream media, one of Barack Obama's Communist Czars has been sent packing...Seems the Kenyan Messiah couldn't provide enough cover for Van Jones, the Green Jobs Czar and avowed Marxist, Racist, and all around Anti American Black Radical.

Radio and Fox News Commenter Glenn Beck outed Jones several weeks ago, and has been putting the full court press on Jones Communist Activities throughout the past years, right up until the time that Barry appointed him to his "Green Jobs" position. While the lap dogs in the MSM, including other Fox Conservative Commentators ignored this hack for what he was, instead commenting about him calling Republicans "Assholes"{which frankly, look no farther than John McCain, Olympia Snow, and Susan Collins, and many are}. Well Old Along Came Jones made apologies for that remark, but never disavowed his Marxist and Racist Comments he was making, right up until Obama named him to his short lived job in the Administration.
Beck has kept it up on Radio and TV, and finally several outlets, including Fox, picked up the story...Mike Pence(R-Indiana) called for a house cleaning...all-the-while, Barry Soetoro stayed out of the fray in his Ivory Tower of the West Wing. One thing about this clown, Barry Soetoro or Barack Obama, whatever his real name or nationality is{we may never know in our lifetimes}, he is a lying sack of fungus that enjoys his protection from the dutiful lap dogs at NBC and most other so called "news" outlets. The American people, at least those that listen, read, or watch, are starting to get the facts through their heads...this guy is pure evil and totally corrupt.

One Marxist Czar Down, can we force out a few dozen more?

Let's hope watchdogs like Glenn Beck keep the pressure on our Marxist-in-Chief. Tuesday the battle for Government controlled Health Care begins anew... Far Left Financier George Soros and his sock puppet named Barack Obama{or Barry Soetoro} will be trying to shove it down our throats/stay alert and remain prepared to do battle.

Football Saturday___
College Football got started on Saturday{actually Thursday, but in full force yesterday}
Ohio State squeaked out a close victory over Navy, not looking good for The Weasel, Jim Tressel, or his Messiah like QB, Terrell Pryor. Bad play calling by OSU late, and the usual boneheaded moves of Pryor reared their ugly heads and the #6 ranked Buckeyes "escaped" with a 31-27 win over the Midshipmen. Meanwhile USC, after a slow start smashed San Jose State 56-3. Next Saturday night at Columbus, before another nationwide audience, the Bucks better play an improved game to avoid last year's smash job in Southern California.
Meanwhile Oklahoma and the Heisman returning Quarterback Sam Bradford, both went down to #20 BYU in Dallas. Bradford hurt his throwing shoulder with 7 seconds left in the first half, never to return, and the Sooners were held to just a field goal in the second half, and lost 14-13....meanwhile Michigan, Notre Dame, and Florida, all won with ease...ND and UM take on each other next week.

Cleaning Things Up/Diabetes Diet Plans/Ted Nugent on Criminals & The 2nd Amendment

Today will mark a full week of sunshine and low humidity since we had the welcome rains last Friday and Friday Night....it appears it will stay this way, getting a little warmer to the mid 80s through the weekend, although I haven't checked the forecast this morning.

Sam and I headed to Convoy last night and officiated a Junior High game between the home Crestview Knights and Spencerville...in a game that lasted just under 2 hours the home team came out on top 12-0...and we headed home. I popped a couple of Miller GD Lites when I got home...64 Calorie Beer? Well I'll give it a try, as I started my new Diabetes 2 Diet Plan yesterday. The plan pretty much looks like Weight Watchers, except you can eat a little more, long as you count Carbs and Calories...not a low Carb Diet, like Adkins, but a moderation of all, with a key on portion control and reducing fats and sugars....I don't see that as a problem. I'm down about 7 pounds since I got the Diabetes news last week, and figure I can sail through Thanksgiving....we will then try to hold on for the winter.

Tomorrow Morning I stay in Celina for a Freshman game with Defiance...Sam heads south for a JV match-up between Minster and St Henry. Sunday, Patricia, Anissa, and I, will take a trip to Hal's girlfriend's apartment south of Dayton, and spend Sunday with them and Lisa's Parents. At least I think that's the plan...Met Lisa once last Spring, and have not met her parents. Being Labor Day weekend, no Sunday Rec Games, so we will cruise through the weekend.

While I was getting my Diet Plan, Patricia was laid low with some sort of leg infection...the ER Doc thought it might be a spider bite, but she was not sure...either way, the wife was unable to walk on it, the leg had developed cellulite, and she was told to stay home. This being the first full week of school at St. Henry, she was not a happy camper, but did what was told. Last night she was on the computer doing school work when I gave her the business about not keep the leg elevated...so after a not so subtle "take a hike" look and words, she did head upstairs and rest it...back at school this morning, but I think the leg is still a problem, even with the shot and antibiotics.

With the Diabetes 2 diagnosis, I have been walking at least 30 minutes{usually more} per morning, and I am thankful for the perfect weather...makes it a lot easier to stay focused.

Cleaning things up_______

As regular readers{do I really have any? Do I really care?} of this blog can attest, I have been fired up since Obama got into office about his politics and policies that have headed this Republic towards ruin. Make no mistake, this guy is and has surrounded himself with full blown Communists in his Administration. The leaders in the House and Senate{Reid and Pelosi} are total incompetence out for money and power. If they and Obummer had been around during Jefferson and Washington's time, they would have surly been hanged long before now for Treason.

Anyway, over the past months I have said and penned some pretty foul mouthed stuff concerning Obama and the likes of Ted Kennedy...I stand by those things I have said, and I make no apology. However, after exchanging e-mails with my buddy Tom's brother Don last night, I have come to one conclusion. The way I have expressed myself, as a Christian, is just plain wrong. Don is a Pastor, and although saying he understands the verbiage, he and some of the folks that stopped by were not keen on my use of the English Language. As a point it was well taken. So from now on, even though I will not refrain from telling you what I think of Barry Soetoro, Nanny State Pelosi, and the rest...I am going to use a kinder, well not kinder, let's say less offensive way of calling them what I believe them to be.

The points I make about Liberals in general and this Marxist called Obama, and his lemmings in particular, will always be right up front...there will be however, less of the 4 letter slams...I despise these people for what they plan on doing with this once great republic, I will continue to fight them tooth and nail from my little soap box....only the content of the words will change.

Next week, the hometowns of my past photo tour continues____

Next week, possibly Monday, I will post a few more photos of my past and present hometowns, and places I have lived....I will also take a look at September 1969, 40 years ago at Nha Trang AB, Republic of Vietnam...I have been slack on that for awhile as well.

Now, go out and enjoy the Labor Day weekend...and beware, the Obama Spin Machine will be back from "Vacation" and aiming at your kids and grand kids come September 8th, when the Messiah will speak via live Satellite feed to public schools around the country, asking the kids to join him and his band of Brown Shirts as they try to 'Change' America as we know it. Might be a good day to keep the kiddies home and tell them what America used to be.

Undecided about you thoughts on the 2nd Amendment of our Constitution? Ted Nugent isn't___

Not much doubt where Ted Stands....Lock and Load!

back later>>>>
Photos-{top left} One of the new flowers in a back yard pot...this took forever to come out. Miller GD Light, this stuff used to be not bad, but they cut the calories in half and of course added more water...not sure if this is my answer, but, will give it a try. And never let it be said that Ted Nugent doesn't say what he means, and yes, his language is a little 'salty'. :)

Photos/Venice,Florida, Montezuma and Celina, Ohio{1954-1968}

Still fall-like this morning, no rain in the forecast for a few more days. It was 47 this morning, temps will slowly rise to near 80 for highs by the end of the week.
---
Tomorrow I make my trek to the Joint Township Hospital, across the Lake, to visit a Dietitian. She will go over my diabetes 2 diet plan for the next 6 weeks. I already started on that path this past weekend, with the help of Patricia...already dropped about 5 pounds, without giving up a nightly beer or two, and without feeling hungry. Tomorrow we will fine turn the plan, and go with it to see how it all works out, before calling the Doc for another blood drawing around mid October.
---
Marxist Alert___

Glenn Beck has been going after the Obummer Administration great guns on both his radio show and his 5PM EST Fox News TV show....the Marxist-in-Chief and his minions are in a panic as Barry's poll numbers are dropping faster than a turd in a 2 story high outhouse. The Kenyan has surrounded himself with a surly crew of Black Racists/Marxists and White Liberal Socialists...and Beck is exposing Obama for what he is...A Chicago Street Radical with a hard core Marxist group surrounding him. Many he has placed in "Czar" positions, just Google up "Van Jones Communist". This son of a bitch is pushing hard for a Socialist/Marxist Utopia, and we better be ready to revolt against his plans. Beck wants everybody to be peaceful in their protests, I'm not so sure that that will work....keep your powder dry, and your basement/storeroom stocked with essentials.

-----Photos of places I have lived{part 2}

1954-1968___

On to more pleasant subjects....

The Houseworth Family of Stan and Margaret lived in Venice, Florida, for about a decade from the early 1950s through late 1962. We started out in South Venice at Alston's Cottages{see yesterday's photos}...Alston's was something akin to the old Travel Court's you can see in old movies from the 30s and 40s. We lived there from 1954 through mid 1957...then on to the Venice By-Way, before finally buying a house in the Edgewood Section of Venice City in the fall of 1958.

Dad and his brother, John, purchase a gas station in South Venice during those years...he finally sold his share to Uncle John in late 1962, and in October of that year we headed to Celina, Ohio...where I have lived off and on for the past 47 years.

In 1963 we moved just outside the small town of Montezuma, Ohio, on the south side of Grand Lake, and just 3 miles from Celina....the folks purchased a house in the fall of 63 that put us within walking distance of Whiskey Run at the edge of the small Lake Front Airport. Whiskey Run is where I would learn to Ice Skate...spent many a winter weekend day there during my early high school days.

Living on the outskirts of Montezuma, going to school in Celina from 1963 until my Air Force days began in June 1968...I learned to drive, drink, and on occasion, open my big mouth at the wrong time...looking back, it was a growing experience, if not an always fun one.

Photos-Alston's Cottages in 1954, mom marked our humble abode with the "X" on this post card she sent to Grandma Houseworth{double click to see large version}. John and Stan's Phillips 66 Gas Station...it was located in South Venice, near Alston's. Me{left}, Mike, and sister Marty in 1956..sister Kelly, born in Venice, didn't come along until the summer of 1962. Whiskey Run near Montezuma, where I learned to Ice Skate and freeze my toes. 1967 the year I graduated, sitting on Dad's Dodge Charger, not half as bad ass as I thought I would like to have been. And finally Dad's Marathon Station on Main Street in Celina, as it looks today...he purchased it in the fall of 1962.

Photos of Places I have Lived

Time to get away from politics for a day or 2...after almost a week bashing the departed Ted Kennedy, time to move on from him. I do however encourage you to "Wake Up America" and pay attention to what the Hell is happening in our country under the mis-leadership of one Barack Obama. The guy has filled his administration with hard core Marxists and Black Radicals that are out to change, if not destroy, this once great Republic...under his pathetic leadership, we as a free nation may indeed be doomed.

Sam and I headed north to Antwerp yesterday afternoon to do a Junior Varsity game between the hometown Archers and visiting Hilltop. Seems the teams had decided to do no kick offs after scores(choosing to put the ball on the 35 yard line instead). They also opted to play 8 minute quarters rather than the regulation 10 for JV games...no problem for us.

The game moved along at a pretty good clip, then with 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, and Antwerp up 14-0, one of the Hilltop players went down with a knee injury. After getting him off the field with help from his teammates, the visiting coach informed me that they would have to quit the game...he, in addition to being a defensive back, was the JV teams only Quarterback...of the 13 remaining players, none had practiced the position, thus by agreement we ended the game with Antwerp the 14-0 winner. Never had that happen before...rain with thunderstorms, yes, cancelled to lack of a QB? Not until yesterday. Guess you see something new everyday.

Places I have lived part #1{1949-1962}___Van Wert, Scott, Ohio, Venice, Florida

I have had the opportunity to live in several places in my 60 years, even as kids, the old man would pick up stakes and head to places unknown by the family. Here are a few photos of some of those places, in the early years...I will pick out the later years as the week goes by:
Van Wert, Ohio{the birthplace}

The Old Van Wert County Hospital where I was born in 1949 and Main Street{The Lincoln Highway Old Route 30} as it looks these days.

Scott, Ohio{the first hometown}

The Old Scott School torn down with the bricks moved in the early 1920s to the "new" Blue Creek School in Haviland.
Photo of the "Scott Gun Club" with a couple of my Great Uncles, Jim and Joe Waldron with friends, shooting at targets. And Grandma Wilda Houseworth{standing} and co-worker at the switchboard of the Scott Phone Company...Top left of Blog is the Scott Elevator, the always there landmark{been burned down 3 times, but always back again}...all photos from the early part of the 20th century.

Venice, Florida(1953-1962)

Guess I should add my mom's hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, to the list as well. We lived in Wilmington{the Shipside Subdivision} for a time in 1952...I also stayed with my Uncle and family during much of my tour in 1968-69 during my early days in the Air Force.

The Photos-I have to say Blogger makes it a pain in the ass to write and place photos at the same time....my apologies...so here we go:

From the Top...The Scott{Ohio} Elevator 1910, Venice{Florida} Beach Casino as it looked in 1952, Downtown Van Wert{OH} as it looks today, and the old Van Wert County Hospital I was born in 1949, The Old Scott School, Scott Gun Club, and Grandma at the Scott Phone Company. From Florida, Alston Cottages, where we lived in the early days in South Venice. The famous Venice Jetties as it looks today. A Devil Ray caught off Venice Beach in 1928 and finally the Wilmington, Delaware, skyline. As always, double click for the large versions of the photos.

Back with more in this 3 part look back at the places I have lived.
