Baseball, Mowing, and Mulching,,,

The above describes the just completed weekend, although you can add a Friday Night round of thunderstorms to the mix...

Baseball____

Celina hosted a 4 team round robin ACME get together including the Bulldogs, along with Crestview from Convoy, and rivals Coldwater and St. Marys, that began Friday night.  Sam and I were to work 4 of the 6 games, including the 2 on Friday, then the last two on Saturday afternoon/evening.

Things got off to a rocky and wet start, as a thunderstorm popped up over the lake and sidetracked to Celina and Eastview Park/Montgomery Field just before the 6pm start time.  We got the opening game between Crestview and St. Marys started about 6:30 and were in the 3rd inning of a 2-2 tie when another batch of lightning and rain came calling.  After an hour the teams and umpires agreed to "kill" that first game where it was.  Since this was not a tournament, just a series during the regular season, there was no need to reschedule this contest.  Meanwhile we waited another half hour, and the skies cleared, so we did start the Celina vs Coldwater game, with Sam, behind the plate.  If not for the "turf" infield and well drained grass outfield, we would have not gotten this game in at all.   Coldwater got excellent pitching and shut out the Bulldogs 3-0, as we finished up around 11:30pm and headed the short trip home.

Four games on Saturday, with Sam and I doing the St Marys/Coldwater and the Celina/St Marys games, after two fellow umps handled the early games between Crestview/Celina and Crestview/Coldwater.  A pretty tidy payday weekend, especially since the drive was only about a mile each way. Tonight Sam and I stay in Celina to work a Junior ACME game in town.  The rest of my week sees me travel to Parkway twice, as well as far north to Kalida with Garry on Wednesday, and finish up at Crestview on Friday....the weekend is off from games,  for our trip to the Dayton area and a Reds game with Hal and Lisa on Saturday night.

Mulching and Mowing, replanting, etc____

The rest of the weekend involved some beer drinking, and cigar smoking on my part...as well as doing the lawn mowing.  Also helping(maybe 10%) with mulching the areas inside the fence and out along the dog kennel.  Patricia decided to mulch the rest of the flowers and edges, including my Sunflowers....which appears to be about 45 plants of differing varieties this year....I don't think I'll have as many "Mammoth" Sunflowers, as I did last season, as some of the seeds just didn't pop out through the heavy mud left by the persistent rains this spring.  But we will have a good crop none-the-less.

After the yard work was complete, I sat on the back steps, had a couple more beers and another Cigar, before calling it a weekend.....weather-wise it looks pleasant for the next couple of days with a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the middle 70s...rain returns for later in the week, maybe by Wednesday or Thursday.

Photos-The Sunflower Batch after the mulching...the large plant on the left of the top photo is a "Wild Sunflower" which I transplanted as it grew wild from under the bush stands in the yard...last year I found a wild plant growing in among the others, which produced about 30 sunflowers...the domestic plants, which you buy in seed form only produce 1 flower per plant...don't ask me why, that's just the it is...the middle photo Sam took with his cell phone, as the first round of storms moved over Eastview Park in Celina during the first game of the Round Robin Baseball action....and the final photo is a view looking east of the row of sunflowers next to the old dog kennel.

Beer Tasting, Windy Point, and Weather Updates

First off note the new "window" on the right side of the blog, near the top....click on forecast and/or maps and get your weather updated to the minute.  ACCUweather will take you to where you want to be...I especially like the Radar that they provide....usually pretty much up to date, the past 15 minutes or less.  This morning we got hammered by a heavy downpour and plenty of lightning....it has passed through Mercer County as of 10:30am, however more strong storms are on the way...or at least they are predicting same.

With Sam home we are scheduled to umpire a double header tonight on the artificial turf at Montgomery Field...4 more games in the round robin set up are scheduled for tomorrow, with Sam and I slated for the last two on Saturday night.  Those of course are up in the air at this point in time....we have a good chance of storms through tomorrow morning.

Flash Back 45 Years Ago, Windy Point Billiards___

With no game scheduled last night, I drove over to the south side of Grand Lake, to see what my old buddy Nick was doing...still working as a welder in a hot factory, he usually is pretty quiet during the week.  We sat in the garage and sipped a couple of dark beers while discussing the weather(HOT) and the fact that the old Beach Point Billiards had reopened awhile back.

Now Beach Point Billiards was one of my old stomping grounds back in the mid and late 60s, before I joined the Air Force.  The Jones Boys, Bob and Jerry, and I used to spend many hours playing pool, and later on, drinking beer...It was my first bar type hangout.

Beach Point at Windy Point no longer looks the same as it did back in 1966, when Hugh Knox, and his wife, opened the place, just on the other side of Montezuma from our house, near the Lake Field Airport.  After sitting idle for a couple of years, it has reopened and the bar and surrounding are pretty nice...hopefully it will make a go.  Live bands, quality beers, as well as the old stand by types, and on Thursdays they have beer tasting....so after downing a couple at Nick's we checked the clock, it was 6pm and time for the Beer Tasting at the old Beach Point Billiards.  We walked in and Roger the owner and his buddy Jim were in charge of German Beer tasting, complete with 5 brews and rating sheets....being a fan of darker beers, especially stouts, German Beer isn't really my type of brew, but I figured, "What the Hell"?, and settled down at the bar and ordered up the 5 4 oz glasses of the five beers on the menu.

Already have had a couple of dark beers at Nick's, I'm not sure how my ratings were in line with what I really would have liked to say...but, even though I am a novice at this type of beer tasting, I enjoyed the experience, and sitting in this place of my high school days, brought back many memories.

Windy Point, just down the road a half mile, was probably the main beach on Grand Lake of my youth.  We moved to Montezuma when I was a Freshman at Celina High, in the fall of 1963, and it remained my home for almost 5 years, before heading off to the military in the summer of 1968.  By the time I returned from Vietnam in the summer of 70, mom and dad have moved into Celina.  But I still spent plenty of leave time on the south side of the Lake, including the bars there, and Windy Point.  As I said, I truly hope the new version of Beach Point makes a go of it...and he keeps his Beer Tasting Thursday in tact.  I will stop by when the opportunities present themselves.

Meanwhile the memories sitting there last night were priceless...how fast time goes by and how quick it changes.

Not much going on...

The "Dog Days" of summer arrived in early June this year, after a cold, wet, early Spring....not much going on.  No games tonight, had a late one at Convoy Crestview last night....Sam home from OSU later in the day....1 more year to go in his actuarial studies. Hal's final day of work as an Independent Contract in the Autism Field is tomorrow, and he begins his new job on Monday,  this with a company specializing in working in that same field.  Some travel involved, and he begins that next week, the job and travel.

A storm moved through overnight, and another one just past Noon..more on the way for the next 48 hours or so...but it will be a bit cooler as well....no game tonight, but double headers, working with Sam, both Friday and Saturday nights, with a round robin tournament featuring Crestview, St. Marys, Coldwater, and host Celina.

Patricia and I will head to Lima tomorrow to pick up a crib and other items for the new Grandchild that is expected in late November....

Mowed mom's lawn today, the others on my list are not in need at this point, both ours and Anissa's are finished until at least the weekend...

See how exciting that was?  Time to drift off...

Summer Baseball....lightning can strike twice in the same inning

Record heat is in the forecast for today...95 with a breeze and heat indexes near 100.  It will be a hot one down on the field at today's Noon start for the Reds and Cubs.  It was hot, but breezy on the artificial field in Celina last night, as I umpired the bases in the 7-1 Celina ACME win over visiting Parkway.  Tonight at 6pm I'm at Convoy for another varsity ACME game...it promises to be hot, even with a real grass field.

Hit, twice in one inning_____

Last night in inning #4 I had something happen, that has happened only two times before in my many years of umpire work.  Working the B position with a runner on first, I took a hard ground ball off the turf, in the foot...no pain, but the call is a dead ball, much like a hit batter.  I put the batter on first and the runner on first at second base.  Then 3 batters later, with the bases loaded, and m in the "C" position near shortstop, the batter hits a hard low line drive, I made a feeble jump attempt, but the ball hits the heal of my shoe...again, move the runners that are forced, up one base, and put the batter on first base.

So something that I can only recall happening twice in my long umpiring career, happens twice in one half inning...Unbelievable!  And embarrassing as Hell.  I know at 62, I've slowed down, and can't jump these days, but still...I can usually get out of the way, even on the faster playing artificial turf.   So I stepped back a few feet, not wanting a trifecta, and the rest of the game went without incident.   Just my pride wounded.

This weekend depending on the storm situation, Sam will be home from OSU, and we will work 4 games in two days on the turf at Celina...double headers on both Friday and Saturday nights.  The rest of June will remain busy, and then in July, the tournament schedule will be handed out, and the games will slow down, before ending before August 1st.   A few weeks off, and a short vacation, then football begins.

Where does the time go?

The Race Card_____

Seems in sports, much like politics, you cannot be critical of a person of "color", without being labeled a "Racist"!

On one blog I frequent, just for sheets and giggles, I have been all over the Jim Tressel/Terrelle Pryor story.  My point is that Tressel threw a class of senior players under the bus in 2008, all for the glory of one Mr. Pryor.  The decision to play Pryor at all costs destroyed what little respect I had for Tressel.  My thought then, as it is now, was that Tressel sold out his seniors and would protect this punk named Pryor through thick and thin.  He did, and it has now bitten him in the backside.  The Vest is out at Ohio State, and now, thankfully, Terrelle Pryor is as well.

So the talking points, much like politics, is "you only hate Pryor because he's black, you don't like black quarterbacks"...yep, must be right.  After all I support a West/Cain ticket for President, if that would happen....I respect both men.  One of my favorite writers is Thomas Sowell...and I love listening to Walter Williams when he fills in for Rush Limbaugh on radio.  Yep, that's me...I despise Barack Obama and Terrelle Pryor, so I must be racist?  Of course I don't like Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, or Jim Tressel....so it all makes sense.

I long ago learned in the politically correct world of politics, "The Race Card" is played only by the left, to stop conversation....I am learning now, that in the sad sack world of sports, the same twisted rules apply.  I'm not buying what they are selling.  I have disliked Pryor and Obammy from the get-go, and race has nothing to do with it.

A Few Real "Weiners".....

Patricia and I headed some 55 miles south down I-75 last night to the Outback Grille.  Hal and wife Lisa had gotten her a gift certificate to Outback for Mothers Day, so with no games on my schedule and no meetings on Patricia's, we decided that a Monday would be a good day to go out...less crowds in the restaurants than most other days.

We dined on steak, deep fried Mushrooms, salads, a baked potato, had a couple of drinks...then topped it off with a dessert sampler...way too much food~but sometimes you have to kick back, and we did.  First time we have been out to eat at a quality place, since we last dined at the same Outback, for our anniversary just before Christmas.  Got home in time to watch the Reds thump the Cubs, and watch Boston manhandle the Canucks in game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Why are Liberal Males Such "Weiners"?

In never ceases to amaze me...As the American Economy falls deeper into another Depression(forget that "Recovery" crap, there is not one, and never has been one, since Bush got us there, and Obammy the Wonder Kenyan has kept us there), the top news stories are about a 3 year old murder in Florida, and three Liberal "men" who have whored themselves and the voters stupid enough to support them, by cheating on their wives.

The lastest assclown to join the likes of Arnold and John "Breck Girl" Edwards, is a slimy little NYC Hebrew Congressman, named Anthony Weiner...and given his text message escapades, the name and his actions are all too funny.  Now before you jump all over me for mentioning this little "wiener" as being Hebrew, let's get one thing straight.  The 90% Liberal American Jewish population are for the most part Atheists, and have nothing in common with the good people of Israel, who are fighters and patriots to the core.  Wieners like Weiner, hate Israel, and vote against it and America's interests at every turn.  Anthony Weiner and his ilk, white, Hispanic, black, Islamic, or Jewish, put forth a foul smell with every breath they take.

Anyway we have Arnold fathering a bastard child, with some not-so attractive Nanny, then sweeping it under the rug, until he leaves office as Gov of Mexifornia.  Then John Boy Edwards, as his wife lays dying of Cancer, is shacking up with some whore, and again fathering a bastard child, then paying his whore off with money given by the dupes stupid enough to support his sorry ass for President.  God, can you imagine if that useless bastard was sitting in the White House?  Bad enough we have that freaking Chicago Gay Blade Obammy in there, with the lovely Moo~Shell!

So along comes Weiner Man.  A mouth piece for Obammy and all things Anti American....the Wiener was all over TV trashing Conservatives any chance he got...you see, Wiener~Man was looking to become the next Mayor of NYC, Congress was just a stepping stone.  So he gets married last July to make things look legit.  But did that stop Weiner from his perversions?  I guess not:

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/06/07/five-reasons-weiner-might-survive-and-five-he-might-not/

The entire sorid story came undone, when he decided to join the Lap Dog Press in blasting Andrew Briebart....but AB had the Wiener goods on him.  "Lil" Anthony was taking pictures of his little wiener and sending it out to women young enough to be his daughters.  On Twitter and Facebook no less....unsolicited no less.  How stupid can one man be?  It appears pretty stupid for a little runt of a New York City Congress...with a "D" beside his name.

http://www.breitbart.com/

Weiner was messing with the wrong Conservative Blogger....so sad...lol!  Male Liberals, you gotta wonder what makes these limp losers tick.

So the lap dog press is asking, "Will Weiner Survive Weiner Gate"?  My guess is yes.  Afterall most Liberals approve of perversion.  And yes Republicans and Conservatives get caught with their pants down as well(Arnold is no Conservative and is a RINO)...but at least most of them have the honor to resign.  Not Ol' Anthony Weiner however..he has MSNBC and the rest of the Liberal press watching his back.  After all, he's a Marxist, just like them...I suspect however, that Weiner has more skeletons in his various closets, and his run for NYC Mayor might be derailed, and his district will be one of 2 that New York will be losing come 2012.  The next 17 months should be fun.

The Gravy Train search...

I was going to do a story today, but was sidetracked by "Weiner Gate", on the American Vietnam Veteran, and their elusive search for the Government Gravy Train.  And why some would help bring their country closer to Bankruptcy just for a comfortable late years of their lives.  That story will have to wait, perhaps until tomorrow.

It will piss off some of my fellow vets off....but you know what?  Not all of us who served in Vietnam came back with PTSD, not all of us were exposed to, or are dying from Agent Orange.  Some were affected, but I suspect many of the problems blamed on the horrors of war, of the exposure to AO, are misdiagnosed or fabricated.  I suspect that much of it can be blamed on Smoking, Drinking, Fried Foods, and Old Age.  Veterans, all Veterans, deserve what we were promised, but, not over and above.   But I digress, that is for another time...when I can give it time and space to make it an honest look, and let the chips fall where they may.

Game in Celina tonight....Convoy tomorrow...back later>>>>

Photos- " A Little Weiner" named Anthony, The Breck Girl, John Edwards, and his well paid whore.  Hopefully a jail cell is in his future, shared with a couple of guys named Leroy and Butch.   And Anthony Breitbart who caused the little Weiner's World to crash and burn.

I hate it when things happen...sometimes.

I hate it when somethings happen:

Like a long cold winter ends, then of course you go right into hot, steamy, humid, putrid, conditions, what ever happend to SPRING?  This is one of the years...we freeze and get drowned right up until Memorial Day, now you walk outside and the bug have already formed their armies, and you can wring the moister out of your shirt and socks after 15 minutes outside.  The farmers finally got back into the fields, but Saturday afternoon and evening, the storms hit Indiana and Ohio, and it looks like our little dry spell is over.

I hate if when the Reds, after years of frustration, finally become a contender, but after only one season fall flat on their faces...and did I mention, I hate the St. Louis Cardinals...

After a disastrous road trip, in which they went 2 wins and 8 loses to fall out of first place...the Cincinnati Reds come home, win a couple of big ones, only to piss away the last two to the lowly Dodgers, while St. Louis was winning in extra innings the same two days against the Cubs.  Now they are mired in 3rd place, and 5 1/2 games out, spinning their wheels....as the pitching staff goes south, and the hitting is inconsistent.

I hate it when you plan on something, then something comes up to thwart your plans.

Case in point...Saturday got done with the ACME game at Coldwater, and was packed and planning on heading for at least one day of the Kokomo/Howard County Vietnam Veteran "Mini" Reunion.  As I got home to shower, I saw the storms pop up on the Radar over Howard County(some 90 miles west)...they continued to get clobbered for hours, thus making the plans on that trip seem futile.  My buddy Tom and the rest survived, but Saturday night was a frog strangler....so we wait until mid September, when Big Sam Lewis and I will join them...hopefully a bit cooler, and dryer time of year.

I hate it when Facebook hacks into your account and denies you access for days:

Have not been able to access my information on Facebook since late Friday...why?  Who knows, but I suspect the Marxist, Obama loving, sons a bitch that runs it, and his cronies, don't like some of my posts pointing out what a hack that the Kenyan Man Child is...of course being the good Marxist and Obammy Lap Dogs they are, they never give you a reason, they just sit you down.  This has been the longest stretch so far...but you know what?  Screw Mark Kruckenberg(fb owner) and the horse he rode in on.  The less time I spend on Facebook, the less money that bastard sees, and the more time I have for other things.  I will be pulling my account shortly, just a heads up for that, when it does, the "badge" on the front of my blog will disappear.

On the other hand there are good things happening...

Youngest son Hal, begins his new job on June 13th...working and doing some travel for an outfit that services the Autistic.  Both Hal and his wife Lisa will now be working for the same company, but not with the same branch...and despite his desire to teach High School History, this opportunity is way too good to pass up.  For one the salary is nearly double what a starting teacher would make, and in this uncertain times for teachers, like his mom, taking a retirement hit, this is sometime a 27 year old with child on the way, is an opportunity he can live with.  So congrats to Hal.

Oldest son Sam, finishes up his Junior year at Ohio State with finals this week....and passed his first required "Actuarial Science" exam of the 3 required to go into the field.  He continues to keep his grades in the lower to mid 3 range(about 3.4 gpa) in a tough major, and is still cruising along working for osu.com and the Big Ten Network doing sports, as well as officiating and umpiring...he will be home next week to work baseball for much of the summer.

And the flowers in the backyard and fence area are growing now that the sun and warm weather has arrived.  Patrica spent time and money getting down the mulch, and we can enjoy the yard outback...of course I will need to lite the Citronella Candles to keep the cash crop of Mosquitoes away...

And here it is Monday, and since retiring almost 9 years ago at the age of 53...I can say, I no longer hate Mondays.  I don't care when the weekend ends....they and the weekdays are the same to me these years.  I officiate/umpire on the weekends much of the time, just like I do during the week.  Drink beer, smoke some good cigars...yep, Monday Thursday, Saturday...all pretty much the same to me...and that is the way I like it.

So, it's Monday, time to head out and mow the lawn.....

back later>>>>

Photo-The aging Airedale Reagan(turns 13 on July 6th) and me relaxing with a beer and cigars(at least me) before the storms hit Saturday night...The Reds do the June Swoon.  Hopefully September in Kokomo will be like last year, and not this past weekend, weather wise.  And a couple of "Pansies"(not to be confused with Liberal Male Democrats) from our back yard.

Summer Baseball

Gotta love Summer Baseball:

Game yesterday is proof of my points....Home Team leads 5-3 top of 7th with visitors having runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Ground ball to short, runner on second runs into the SS and knocks him down and ball loose.  My partner doesn't make the call...so me, behind the plate, calls time, and rules "Interference" on the runner on 2nd.  Calling him out, sending the runner on 3rd who scored, back to that base, and allowing the batter to stay at first...because I didn't think a double play was in order.

I got the call right...made sure of that when I got home and checked out the rules and case book for High School Baseball....I was 99% sure anyway, but wanted to confirm that I had indeed got it correct...That didn't stop the "umpires" along the fence for the visitors or the coaches from disagreeing with me...but I was right, they were wrong, and the game ended on the next play, when the new batter popped up to the second baseman.  Gotta Love Summer Baseball!

Back to Crestview tonight, a single game(down from a double header) tomorrow at Coldwater, then a Junior ACME double header on Sunday.

Another Kokomo Vietnam Reunion____

If the weather doesn't threaten too much tomorrow, after I finish at Coldwater, I may head over to Kokomo for the first of two summer reunions at The Howard County  Vietnam Veterans site.  This is the shorter "Mini Reunion" which begins today...Mid September is the big one....I will for sure be at that one.

Otherwise I plan on staying busy, even if the storms hit, this weekend....have a good one~

Dog Owners Found!

Beautiful day yesterday, and as I headed north in the sunshine towards my game in Convoy, the cell phone in my pocket began to ring..."Hello I say" and on the other end a younger sounding man begins to describe how he found my name and number and thought I might have his and his wife's dog...."Bingo" I tell him, the little Shitzu Tzu (not a Pekingese mix) that was in our back yard was his...the Double 00 Ohio State Jersey clinched the deal.  Told him Patricia was home and he could pick "Cozy"(the dogs name) up at our place.

Paricia said it was a happy reunion and Cozy was in his car and on his way home...just 3 blocks away....so being so close, how did he finally find Cozy?  With the help of my nieces husband Cory at their work place, and of the above photo, they saw on my Facebook page....Great end, I was hopeful the owners would be found if they really wanted their dog, and it worked out.  Although I admit we will miss the little guy.  He is an active dog to say the least.

The game went 2 1/2 hours with the home team Crestview squad defeating Lincolnview 13-4...tonight I am at Spencerville for a 6pm start....

For now, I'm headed to the funeral of my neighbor when we lived in Montezuma during my High School years, and the father of two of my best friends...Bob Jones Sr, passed away over the weekend....just 10 days shy of his 86th Birthday...

Just another day..rain free for once

Not a lot going on....so here tis:

We got our scrimmage in at Eastview Park last night....Coldwater joined Celina and played 6 innings, but both teams testing pitching rotations...I worked the plate for two hours.  Tonight the regular ACME season begins, with Jimmy R at Convoy Crestview against Lincolnview.  Tomorrow at Spencerville vs Lima Bath.

The 30% chance of storms missed us and went north into Michigan after clearning western Indiana...not rain prediced until Friday...then a 30% storm chance.  Cooler by a bit, and less humid today and tomorrow.

The Pekingese(?) dog is still with us...still looking around for owners, but so far no takers.....will keep looking, for now he is fine...outside.  He is interested in coming in the house, but that ain't happening....

Time for some mowing...then off to the funeral home...our neighbor from my High School days and by buddies, the Jones Brothers, dad, Bob Senior passed away over the weekend at the age of 85....hard to believe he was just 37 when we moved to Montezuma...time does fly...

"The Vest" is gone as Jim Tressel Resigns....The Buckeye Shirt wearing dog however, is still around...

The Memorial Day Weekend was indeed like the true beginning of Summer...hot and humid, with a round of storms on Saturday Night, just to keep the grass growing and the farmers out of the fields...and one more hot one today, with a high predicted of 94, chance of more storms tonight....then, so they predict, it will be less hot, less humid, and less rainy for the next 10 days or so....we will see.

The End of the Vest Era at The Ohio State University____

Stick a fork in Jim Tressel, the button down, straight laced, coach of Ohio State Football....he has resigned after the charges of lying about many things finally got to be too much.  Record wise he will go down as the greatest coach in OSU Football history, even beating the likes of Woody Hayes, who resigned some 34 years ago, after slugging a Clemson player at the end of a Bowl Defeat.  Personally I could respect what Woody did, Hell I would probably have done the same given the situation...The Vest, not so much.  Jim Tressel gave up his position and power, because of his slave like worship/devotion for one sorry punk son of a bitch, named Terrelle Pryor.

http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/20110531_Ohio_States_Tressel_resigns_amid_scandal.html

When the recruiting wars began for the athletic, but stupid in mind and soul, quarterback from Pennsylvania, 4 years ago, the Buckeye Nation was all a ga-ga about getting this clown.   Now it appears, Ohio State may have won the battle to put Pryor in a Buckeye uniform, but lost the war.  The signing of TP was the worst move in Buckeye Football history....and Tressel, who fell on his sword for Pryor and 4 others of the infamous "Tat 5" paid the ultimate price.  And you can bet more penalties and forfeits are coming from the equally corrupt NCAA.

So the Vest is gone, even oldest son Sam, who attends OSU, and works for the Big Ten Network and OSU.Com likes Tressel, and feels his undoing was the "Tat 5"...he thinks that when and if they come back off their 5 game suspensions...the OSU fans in the stands will not treat them kindly.   Frankly I don't care...I became sick of Tressel and his act when he tossed the entire Senior class and especially quarterback Todd Boeckman under the bus, all for the glory of Pryor, back in 2008 season...I figured right then he was a snake in the grass, and Pryor was a useless piece of trash...seems I was right on both counts.  And I've been a Buckeye football fan for 50 years.

My guess is The Vest will never coach in college again....but the NFL has a place for him on the sidelines...look for Tressel to resurface, perhaps at Cleveland, with the Browns, they deserve each other...and Hell maybe Pryor can be his savior there?  {insert major league eyeroll}

The Buckeye Dog is still here____

As I wrote on yesterday's post, late Saturday afternoon, a small Pekingese or Lhasa Apso type dog, wearing a Ohio State jersey(how appropriate given yesterday's news} came wandering into our back yard through the open garage doors....after contacting the police, checking the Fairgrounds, and even taking a photo(attached) of him and posting it on a sign in the front yard saying "Dog Found, Inquire Within" there have been no takers or no calls, contacts, etc.  Now this guy was previously groomed, wearing a shirt of somebody's favorite football team, so somebody has to miss him...hopefully today will be the day...but if not, he has a home here, until somebody comes calling...he seems to be well behaved, and has taken over the fenced-in backyard as his personal turf.

ACME Baseball was slated to start tonight...I am scheduled to work here in Celina as they were to host Minster....that won't happen however, as both Minster, and Delphos St. Johns(the team I was scheduled to umpire for 9 times but was rained out 8 of those) made the D4 State Semi Finals...if both teams win on Thursday, the two league rivals (DSJ won the regular season league title and match up) would square off for a State Title...good luck to both!  So unless Celina has secured another team to take Minster's place...my season will begin tomorrow at Convoy Crestview...

Patricia and I are heading for Lima today, to check out "stuff" for the November arrival of Grandkid #1...

Photos-The Vest is History at OSU, all because of the mistake named Terrelle Pryor...anybody missing a approx 2 year old male dog wearing a OSU Jersey?

Found Dog....Celina, Ohio

Last evening after Anissa had returned to her house across town, I was sitting on the back steps with Patricia, who had worked digging and weeding most of the day, in the heat and humidity, while I drank beer and smoked cigars appreciating her work.  I looked up and see this dog coming through the open side door of our garage.  A funny looking Pekingese type dog, or maybe a Pug faced PeekaPoo...not really sure, but here he comes, wearing a Ohio State Football Jersey(how appropriate considering OSU Football Coach Jim Tressel resigned under pressure today)...and he walks into the yard.  Reagan the aging Airedale was in the house enjoying the A/C, so except for us, he had the back yard to himself...

His "shirt" was dirty and he appeared hungry...so we gave him some water and dry food...and let Reagan out to greet him.  After some fear of the much larger dog, he finally settled in...for the NIGHT!  Could not find anybody looking for him.  So he spent the night on the back steps, and ate a couple bowls of food.

This morning I checked with the police, Patricia went to the fairgrounds and checked with the small group of campers over there...but thus far...no takers.  Now somebody has to be missing this dog...you don't dress a canine up in a OSU shirt and put him out on his own....do you?

Oh' well, that and the heat are the topics of this Memorial Day around here....Say a big thank you to all that came before and since who have paid the sacrifice for this Nation.....and stay vigilant against those like the current bastard in the White House, who are doing all they can to destroy what the real heroes paid the ultimate price to defend.

And if you're missing a dog...drop me a e-mail!

back later>>>>

Photo-Here is he...we will call him "Buckeye" for now...until his owners show up to claim him...
