Back From the Moab Adventure....part 1

OK....we made it back last Sunday, March 29, 2015 from our Moab Adventure, which began with plans back in November and got started on Thursday March, 19th....

The Final Toll....3 falls, one sprained right ankle, one stretched out right arm tendon, and a bruised right knee....the "right side" took a beating.  Meanwhile the "t-dub" is mighty dirty with red sand and dirt, and has a broken weld between seat and "Man~Rack"....not sure how that happened, but my guess is, when I took my 3rd and most dangerous fall, a hard one at that, the fuel rotopack snapped the weld...Nick will be working on that...and it should be no problem getting it back to normal.  All-in-all, despite the injuries, the falls, the light damage, and the damn head cold returning, I survived it all....with a few regrets{not many} and some good memories, along with a better idea of what a 66 year old can and can't do these days.

Thursday March 19th,  Friday March 20th, and Saturday March 21st...

Nick and I had already taken our TWs over to Kurt's Rural Ranch earlier in March, so we loaded up the rest of our "stuff" and headed the 70 miles north and east to near Auburn, Indiana, early Thursday afternoon...Kurt had already taken off the afternoon, but his brother had stopped by, so we spent most of the afternoon downing a few{or more} beers, before crashing in his "Barn"{anything but} for a few hours sleep....his wife, Miss Margaret, had fixed up breakfast and we were on the road to Utah by 6:15 Friday AM.

Kurt's nephew who we call "The Weasel", a good riding happy go lucky 24 year old who  has skills with motorcycles and life well beyond his years, would do the driving....the entire 1600 miles out and back....the rest of us played with I-Phones, farted, drank coffee, and bitched at each other on the way out.....we made it to the western Kansas town of Oakley by 9pm Friday Night, and stayed at decent motel, grabbed a few beers, a Subway for me, and Pizza for the other 3....

Saturday morning, we were up before light, and headed across the flat lands of west Kansas and eastern Colorado in the direction of Denver...making good time, stopping for fuel(we would spend about $800 out and back for gas, a year ago we would have been socked for at least 1/3rd more}....we got to see the Ski Hills of that Yuppie Obama Loving Dump called Vail, in all it's more money than brains, glory....I liked to Ski in my younger years, but the Starbucks Sucking clowns that frequent the hills of snow are people I can do without....but we were by it in an instant, and on our way past towns I can relate to, like Parachute and downhill towards Grand Junction and the Utah Border...

We rolled through Moab mid afternoon, and 4 more miles to our home for the next week, the Moab KOA Campground.....our Cabin would be the 2 room 5 bed log home....we would spend as little time in the cabin, except to sleep, as possible, but it was much better than tent camping in the dirt....Half of the nearly 30 TW Riders would stay at KOA, the rest out north of Moab in the sandy flats.....if you should ever get a chance to stay a Moab, take the KOA or other such route and DON'T TENT CAMP....

Once signed in at the grounds....we unloaded the bikes, and headed into Moab for a look around.....grabbed some beers and the rest of Saturday was set....we would begin our riding, falling, and sight seeing on Sunday...

back with Part 2....The First Day/I Hate Sand

Photos-I survive the Ride to the Island in the Sky....Fog and Snow greeted us on our way out of Auburn, Indiana, on Friday Morning...our first stop was just west of Indy, one of many fuel and pee stops....and Saturday Afternoon we arrive at Moab KOA, our cabin, on the right K-18 would be home for the next 8 days...
