Just a Quickie & the "Earthquake"

Not a lot of time this Friday morning...lawns to mow(both our and mom's need their first full yard deal), Sam and I will get to those in short order...one more nice day for lawns and baseball before rain ruins the weekend weather...but we will take what we got this week and be thankful for the sun and the drying that has occured.

Drove to north of Sherwood, Ohio, last night for the game between the host Fairview team and GMC league rival Antwerp....did the plate without incident. The game, while not as close as I thought it would be(15-5--6 inning run rule by the home team), two pretty good, well coached teams, is always a plus. Back at Antwerp tonight, they host Lincolnview...and as things would fall(if it doesn't get rained out), Sam and I are at Lincolnview(where he's at tonight) for an early afternoon game tomorrow with Temple Christian, out of Lima....this turns out to be a week of seeing the same teams more than once.

Many of the games I do are at medium and small rural schools and communities where townships and small towns of less than 2000 feed their schools with students. Sherwood Fairview, about 57 miles north of Celina is one such place. Fairview Schools are located about 4 miles north of Sherwood along US 127, they have a strong baseball and football tradition....the photo is from the northwest parking lot and while not showing the improvements at the field, give you an idea of just how rural this wide open spaced school is.

Guess I would be remiss if I didn't mention the little 5.4 Earthquake that was centered around the Evansville, Indiana/East Illinois area this morning....about 5:30 I was awoken by the sound of a rumbling in one of the upstairs bedroom's closet, and the Airedale let out a little yelp....the wife was awake, and I thought she was looking for something in that closet and I went back to sleep.....it turns out it was a fine little rumble of the earth moving, which I'm sure those readers this blog in Illinois, Indiana, and Bruno, out in the Missouri Bootheel can attest to better than I....no damage to report here in west central Ohio.

Never been in an earthquake. Always thought it would be cool so long as nothin' got torn up. Sat through the tornado in Jerrel about ten years ago. Was cool till insulation from a house started to float down from the sky. the reality of it dawned on me then. Not cool.

Those quakes scare me no matter how small. I remember when I was stationed at March AFB, in Riverside, I was working the control room at the bomb dump, when one hit. Two of the ADT alarm panels which were about 7 feet by 4 feet fell over, and a couple of windows broke. This generated a big problem which I won't talk about here, but suffice it to say within about two minutes there was an army of fire trucks, base commander and other rquired to set up a command post. For us old cops you know what I am talking about.

I saw a History Channel show on the New Madrid quakes back in the early 1800's. I hope that isn't about to happen again!

I am not a big baseball fan. I will go to the Redhawks, the local minor legue team, games here and have a good time, but I just cannot watch a game on TV. Granted I will watch baseball over golf. Golf needs some full contact plays. Anyway.... my dad, brother and our families go to the Redhawks games a few times a year as a family.
But my 1-month short of 4-year old got hold of a t-ball setup last weekend. with a regulation ball and an alumanum bat, he smaked the ball about a god 40-50 feet and if it had been shorter grass (not the almost foot tall grass the rains have brought us) it would have gone further.

Naw, I might've stirred a bit. Unless it makes things fall on my head, I'll ignore it! This'n for ME was just a "glass-rattler". Wasn't directly connected to the New Madrid Fault. That's why the news reports call it an "unusual occurrence"---it very seldom shakes that hard in that particular fault zone.

On the other hand, if it don't shake at least a 2.5 once a week in our New Madrid zone, it means the equipment must need checking...!

Wow! You felt it way over in Ohio? Dang. I thought it was pretty amazing here in central Indiana. That was a first for me.

Yep, the "Bumper" was felt all the way to Columbus...as I said, really didn't think much about it, until I got up and started reading comments on some internet sites...then I knew what the dog was upset about and what I heard wasn't the wife in the closet.

Yep Cookie, I have seen that photo before...and always thought, "what a bunch of nimrods"....a bunch of butts on display, ain't art...but like you said about the Gay Dems..."aren't they all?"

A quickie is better than none at all...they say!

No shaking here, but I often wake myself up jumping and thinking it was the room and not me...is that restless-leg?
