Snap!

A quick Sunday Post...

After another 4 days of rain and baseball rainouts, we finally got some sunshine yesterday...despite the miserable weather so far this spring, the weekends, for the most part have been blessed with sunshine and moderate to warm temperatures....Yesterday was no exception, sun and 63 by late afternoon.

Sam headed to 5th/3rd Field in Dayton to do a High School game on the professional diamond of the Class A Dayton Dragons...I went north to Delphos to do the Spencerville-St Johns double header, with my Van Wert umpire partner. "The Rackster"....Rick is about my age, a medic of the Vietnam war as a Marine, and grey hair...so we have a few things in common...Rick took the plate for the first game of the twin bill...he made it 3 innings!

A sharp foul ball caught him just above his chest vest protector, and hit him square in the collar bone...SNAP! Off to emergency care went the Rackster...I finished up the 5 inning rule rule(Delphos by a 12-2 score) behind the plate as Rick's replacement arrived from Lima...I did the plate umpire thing the second game as well, with the St John's Blue Jays sweeping the double header with a 4-1 win. Rick stopped by with arm in sling, and ice bag on, confirming he indeed had a broken collar bone...ouch!

Such are the hazards of the everyday umpire....

If the weather holds, I've got a full schedule until May 19th, including a NWC league game tomorrow at Crestview against Delphos Jefferson, then Tuesday on to Lima Shawnee against WBL rival Lima Bath, after that they are saying some more wet weather...guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

In Hockey news...the Fort Wayne Komets take a commanding 2 games to none lead in the IHL Turner Cup Finals, While in the NHL Stanley Cup, Washington took a game up in the east Semis over the Pittsburgh Penqueens, while the Chicago Black Hawks evened their series with Vancouver at a game a piece last night 6-3...

And hey, I got both my lawn and mom's mowed....although I had to "high cut" mom's due to the rain and fast growth....it's going to be a never ending project for the next couple of weeks at least.

Enjoy your Sunday...back later>>>>

I broke my collar bone skateboarding when I was 15.

Healed well, but it's never been the same. Kind of protrudes out, a bit and feels weirdly sensitive when you're laying at odd angles...

You better be careful with that kind of thing. Old guys don't heal up like young ones. I broke 3 ribs in an accident a couple of years ago and it took forever to heal up. Maybe your friends accident is a hint from fate that it's time to hang up the mask?
